Amritsar
An Historical City

AMRITSAR is the one of the main cities of Punjab. It is also called the home of Golden Temple. This 400 years old city has its own history and culture.

Situated at northwest boundary of India, the city is called the gateway for the peoples coming from Pakistan. It is situated at a distance of 29 kilometers from Bagha Border. It was built by the Sikhs fourth Guru Ram Dass in year 1579.

There are many important places to be visited at Amritsar, which have there own history and culture.

Golden Temple AmritsarGolden Temple is one of historical monument of Amritsar. Situated in the centre of a Pond, Golden Temple was build by Guru Arjun Dev. In 1803, the King of Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh completed the remaining work.

Sikh Museum is situated beside Golden Temple. There are many paintings which shows the wars fought by the Sikhs.

Jalianwala Bagh is the witness of the 2000 men, women and children martyrs, to whom the General Dyre ordered to shoot on 13th April 1919. You can see the marks of gunshots there even today.

Durgiana Temple is similar to Golden Temple situated in the center of a pond. This is also a beautiful place to visit.

The main markets of the Amritsar are Hall Bazar, Guru Bazar, Lawrence Road, Chor Bazar, Ghantaghar Chowk.

You can visit here any time. But visiting here on Baisakhi will give you more enjoy.
